Firefighters battled the fire for 14 hours

Firefighters battled the fire at Lucky Store’s warehouse from the moment they arrived after receiving the call, and today at 11:00 am, they were still at it. Not even the rain of last night helped put out the fire, which started around 8:15 pm.

Lucky Store and Lucky Electronics’ warehouse is situated right behind ex-Kong Hing and Certified Mega Mall buildings. The warehouse consisted of two sections, one for electronics and the other part was storage for clothes and tires.

This morning they decided to demolish the rest of the building so the fire wouldn’t get the chance to intensify again and cause more work for the firefighters, who had already been working for about 14 hours.

This is one of the biggest fires of these last years. Lucky Store was established in Aruba in 1994 and had been serving the people of Aruba since then. They have been renting this building since 2003. The cause of the fire is still unknown, but they suspect it’s from a short circuit.

In the morning, they were able to take out what was important for the company. A safe with a back-up of all their accounting system was recovered. They were not able to save the content of another safe. All documents related to permits were destroyed.

Large fires known in Aruba are, e.g., La Linda, Visage, and the mall at the end of the Mainstreet.
