Covid test not included in insurance

The situation regarding the global pandemic of Covid-19 changes frequently, not only in Aruba but also in different markets where Aruba is represented.

Aruba opened its borders slowly, so measures had to be put in place for our visitors and adjusted as deemed necessary according to local and international protocols. Because of the developments and continuous changes here in Aruba and our different markets, the correct information needs to be given to our visitors. Incorrect information has been passed on stating that the US$30 mandatory insurance for travelers also included the test when leaving the island—a new requirement instituted by the US and Dutch governments.

Visitors who are not Aruba residents pay a one-time fee of US$30,-, the Aruba Visotrs Insurance, which would cover eventual expenses for lodging, transport, and test if a visitor gets infected with the virus during their stay on Aruba. Furthermore, they must take a Covid-19 test at least 72 hours before arriving in Aruba, or they can choose to test at the test-center upon arrival at the airport. As of January 2021, the US and Dutch Governments require those traveling to their countries to take a Covid-19 test before traveling. The cost is for the traveler: those traveling back to the US or the Netherlands must pay for their test and is not covered by the Aruba Visitors Insurance.

Travelers living in Aruba who return from abroad must pay to get tested (approved by DVG) either at the destination or the test-center at the airport upon arrival in Aruba. Certain countries now also require a test to be able to enter their country.

One of the challenges during this pandemic is communication. Information changes frequently. For that reason, Aruba Tourism Authority appeals to our community to visit the website www.aruba.com to stay up to date on all the latest developments regarding travel requirements needed from our visitors. This way we could give our visitors the correct information. Residents could visit www.arubacovid19.org.

Regardless of all the challenges, one must face when traveling, visitors still choose Aruba as its destination and deserve to be informed correctly by our community. Your support in making sure you are well informed, obtaining information from reliable sources, and broadcasting the correct information is very important during this crisis.
