Strike: No busses this morning for two hours

This morning, employees of Arubus decided to strike to show their dissatisfaction with the decision of management to cut their salaries.

Around 5:30 am this morning, busses that had to hit the road were all parked at their main office in Wayaca. These were the busses that would pick-up students around Aruba. Around a thousand people were affected by this protest, held under the leadership of labor union SEPPA. At 7:30 am, everyone went to work.

This protest has to the with the 12.6% salary cut. This reduction in the employees’ income was something they cooperated with last year, but until December 31, 2020.

Many students were seen early this morning at the side of the road without a way to get to school. On top of that, it was raining, and because most of these students were dropped off by parents at the bus stop, there was no way for them to head back home nor get to school. Some of them were not able to call anyone, and some even had tests today at school.
