Minister Croes: Carnaval Monday February 15 is a day off

Aruba is severely affected by the consequences of the pandemic caused by the virus Covid-19. Many preventive and precautious measures had to be implemented to reduce the virus’s spread, which had implications for our freedom to move.

One of these measures is to avoid the agglomeration of people. This measure had significant consequences for our cultural events. Some could have been adjusted, and others had to canceled temporarily to avoid a contagion outbreak of the coronavirus on our island.

Our Carnival is one of the events that unfortunately had to be canceled temporarily. During the 65 years of the Carnivals existence, this is the first time we are finding ourselves in this delicate situation where this celebration cannot take place.

However, we are aware that if it weren’t for the virus, Aruba’s Carnival would have taken place as is customed. As soon as things normalize again, all cultural events will resume as before, without any exception.

For this reason, the Monday after the Carnival’s big parade, which this year is February 15, 2021, will be recognized as a holiday.
