EPI teachers walked out today

Since early morning, Colegio EPI sector Science and Technology teachers decided to walk out because of their concern regarding their overtime that has not been paid since last year. On top of that, the teachers want a new schedule and tasks for this semester.

According to the teacher Tricia Roumou-Everon, on behalf of her colleagues, they informed them that they were going to walk out. They sent a letter on January 22 mentioning all of their concerns.

Minister of Education informed that he would not be paying overtime. They saw what took place at Colegio San Nicolas. This brought a lot of concerns to the teachers of Science and Technology, where they informed management that all schedules and tasks would be changed for the upcoming semester.

If managements want them to work overtime to guarantee an education that the students deserve, two conditions must be met. The first one is that last year’s overtime must be paid because the teachers worked those hours. The second one is that management must guarantee authorized supervision that when they work overtime, that these would be paid as well.

They also indicated that if they cannot comply with those two options, they must at least maintain the annual average of 32 working hours.

The decision has been made that the teachers will not work until they comply with their demands. If they won’t be paying overtime, to give the teachers a schedule without overtime, and the agreement stands that as long as nothing is fixed they will not teach.
