Saturday morning, around 11.30, the police station sent a patrol to Rooi Frances, where one or more people witnessed a man beating his partner in the car with a small child present. When police arrived, the man had already abandoned the scene.
Based on the description of the car, police managed to stop a car on a road in Santa Cruz that was heading north. It is unknown to us if that was in fact the car they were searching for, but they noted the data and returned to Rooi Frances, where the partner and child were abandoned in the scorching heat.
On-site it was understood that the man was choking his partner, while the child attempted to hold back their father from abusing their mother. A young man who was passing the scene, saw the abuse and stopped his car and attempted to see how he could help. Once the man noticed that people were witnessing his abuse, he decided to get in his car and abandon the scene. According to an unofficial report, this was not the first instance this man abused his partner.
It appears that in previous instances of abuse, the victim did not want to file a complaint against her partner, which makes it difficult for police to act in such cases. One police had spoken to the partner and thanked the young man who stopped to help, they departed the scene together with mother and child. It is unknown to us if she will file a complaint against her abusive partner this time
