It was a long and difficult battle. Ruben Garcia, who just celebrated his 70th birthday (in the hospital) on Monday, has been battling health issues for the past few years. He had pulmonary issues which caused cardiovascular issues as well. He changed his entire lifestyle around to gain a few extra years of life. His health issues persisted, unfortunately, and this past weekend he was admitted to the hospital. He was put on oxygen and from there, his health started rapidly declining. Unfortunately, we just received the news that he passed away in intensive care at the Dr. Horacio E. Oduber Hospital.
Ruben “Scorpio” (70) Garcia started his radio career on the 1st of June 1970 with “Radio Kelkboom” and then later with “Voz di Aruba AM” in 1976. He went on to “Canal 90FM” in the year 1989, and then he moved to “Magic FM” in 2002. Lastly, he became the general manager of “Power FM” where he would host his morning radio program as well as his highly popular Sunday show. Since 1982 he was a promoter who dedicated his talents to radio and television. The largest show he ever organized was the UB40 concert in the Aruba Entertainment Center in September of 1994. Ruben Garcia was married to his wife Theresa and had two daughters and two grandchildren.
