Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) recently held a series of activities to promote and support the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) during its 2025 SDG Action Week. This year’s event took place from September 22 to 25 and focused on the theme: Partnerships for Sustainable Development and Climate Solutions. Key initiatives highlighted included the airport’s new Environmental Management System (EMS) and the introduction of Sustainable Waste Management at Aruba Airport.
AAA’s environmental strategy and new management system are built around six pillars, emphasizing the airport’s ongoing commitment to reducing its environmental impact, lowering pollution and waste, protecting natural resources, and improving operational environmental efficiency.
With waste management as a major focus, AAA conducted several awareness and training sessions for employees and the wider airport community. These sessions prepared participants for the rollout of waste separation bins throughout the airport terminal.
Additional educational activities were held at UNESCO School Aruba – Prinses Amalia Elementary School, showcasing students’ recycling efforts and teaching them how to contribute positively to their community. Living Soil Aruba highlighted the importance of Syntropic Agriculture, a method that grows food, restores ecosystems, and helps communities reconnect with nature. AAA employees also volunteered with Living Soil at two local schools, providing hands-on support and giving back to the community.
AAA is committed to continuing its promotion of the UN SDGs through projects and activities that benefit both the local community and the airport environment. This year’s SDG Action Week underscored the airport’s dedication to reducing environmental impacts and encouraging sustainable practices through collaboration with key stakeholders and the broader airport community.
