Accident near Palm Beach roundabout damages three vehicles

by Nicole

On Saturday night, shortly before midnight, a serious accident occurred on Nelson Orlando Oduber Boulevard, commonly known as Sasakiweg, near the Palm Beach roundabout. Two vehicles were directly involved in the collision.

The driver of a Volkswagen lost control of the car after another vehicle moved from the right lane into the left, cutting in front of the Volkswagen. As a result, the driver was unable to brake in time and, in an attempt to avoid a rear-end collision, lost control of the vehicle. The car spun 90 degrees and crashed into a light pole, then flipped several times before coming to a stop a short distance away from the initial impact site.

The light pole was knocked over. At that exact moment, a Mercedes-Benz was passing by and had to swerve to avoid driving over the fallen pole. The driver veered off the road and ended up stuck in a ditch. Meanwhile, a third car—a Kia Picanto—drove over the fallen pole, which bent one of its rims.

All those involved were visibly shaken, but fortunately, no one was injured. A tow truck had to be called in for all three vehicles. The Mercedes-Benz was pulled out of the ditch and its driver was able to continue their journey. However, the other two vehicles had to be towed away. The Kia, a rental car, did not have a spare tire or jack.

Police arrived at the scene and took statements from everyone involved. The driver of the white car that had cut in front of the Volkswagen remained at the scene. Since that vehicle did not collide with any of the others, police allowed the driver to leave. However, the owner of the Volkswagen is now left with significant repair costs to cover.
