Arubans fly to Sint Maarten to soak up the Carnival spirit

Every year around King’s Day, Arubans pack their bags and head to Sint Maarten—not for vacation, but for Carnival. The vibrant celebration has become a beloved tradition, drawing carnival lovers from Aruba who are eager to experience the energy, music, and culture of their sister island.

Sint Maarten’s Carnival, much like Aruba’s, features two major parades filled with color, sound, and dancing. Arubans have become familiar faces in these festivities, not just as spectators but as full participants in the parades themselves.

One of those regulars is Laura Molina, who returned again this year after an unforgettable experience in 2024. “Even though the route was long and the sun was strong, the atmosphere made it all worth it,” she shared with a smile.

Fellow carnivalista Quianna Meyers also joined the parade, dancing through the streets of Sint Maarten to the beat of soca and Carnival rhythms. “There’s something special about being part of a celebration where everyone’s just there to enjoy life,” she said.

Thousands turned out for both parade days—the Grand Parade on Sunday and the Labor Day Parade on Tuesday. Although scattered rain caused some delays, spirits stayed high. Adding to the sense of unity, several bands and DJs played Aruban music during the parades, a nod to the close cultural ties between the islands.

With every passing year, more Arubans are discovering the joy of celebrating Carnival abroad. Whether for the costumes, the music, or the camaraderie, Sint Maarten offers a Carnival experience that keeps them coming back.
