According to unofficial sources, the crocodile that alarmed the entire community of Bonaire has passed away.
The animal was captured last Saturday, but by Monday morning, reports from Bonaire indicated signs of its declining health.
The stress of being in an unfamiliar environment, followed by confinement until its capture, likely took a toll on its health.
Aruba had offered to care for the crocodile, suggesting it was likely a former pet and noting that a freshwater crocodile should not have been in the ocean.
On Monday, a veterinarian assessed the animal, found it extremely weak, and expressed concerns that it would not survive much longer. Later that day, it passed away.
