An earthquake was reported early this morning. While the epicenter was not in Aruba, its effects were felt on the island.
According to data from the Venezuelan Foundation for Seismological Research, the earthquake struck 6 km southeast of Cabo San Román at 4:47 am. This is when many people began sharing their experiences on social media.
The earthquake measured 3.5 on the Richter scale and occurred at a shallow depth of 1.1 km. Another tremor took place about two hours earlier, northeast of Guiria, at 2:52 am. It had a magnitude of 2.9 on the Richter scale and occurred at a depth of 4 km.
Colombia’s Geological Service also reported an earthquake near Venezuela’s coast at 3:48 AM, with a magnitude of 3.0. The epicenter was located 39 km from Punto Fijo and at a depth of less than 30 km.
