On Thursday morning, another edition of the “Accion di Bario” took place, this time around the Mabon Complex. During the visit, organizers spoke with residents to hear their concerns, experiences, and needs.
This neighborhood action initiative aims to restore neighborhoods and provide support to remove accumulated waste. Teams from various government departments work together in each neighborhood to help restore dignity and improve living conditions for all residents.
One resident, Mirna Brokke, who has lived in the Mabon neighborhood for over 25 years, praised the community. She described it as a good neighborhood where neighbors get along well, but she emphasized that maintenance is an area needing more attention.
As a tenant of an FCCA house, Mirna highlighted the need for better upkeep of properties outside FCCA management. She pointed out that the façades and general maintenance of homes must be regularly attended to. In her case, maintenance had been delayed for many months and is now urgently needed.
During the Neighborhood Action, officials also addressed a piece of open land in front of Mirna’s property that had become an illegal dumping site. The sloped area was originally left undeveloped for construction, but over time, residents began using it to discard trash. It eventually became a breeding ground for animals and a dumping site for items like refrigerators, stoves, sofas, beds, and mattresses, creating a serious concern for the community.
The cleanup effort provided much-needed relief, and residents expressed gratitude to the government for taking their requests seriously and removing the waste completely.
Residents of the Mabon Complex also praised the government for the support given to seniors during the recent pension increase. For Mirna Brokke, this assistance has been particularly helpful. While she continues to face challenges, she expressed deep appreciation for the government and Prime Minister Mike Eman for considering the welfare of elderly residents.
The Neighborhood Action program highlights how coordinated efforts between government departments and local communities can improve living conditions, restore dignity, and create safer, cleaner neighborhoods.
