The K9 Unit of the Aruba Police Force (KPA) has added two new police dogs to its team. Two officers recently spent two weeks in the Netherlands selecting and training with the dogs, in close collaboration with the Dutch National Police’s Landelijke Expertise Operaties division.
The training took place at the Speurhondensitu in Nunspeet, where the officers worked intensively to build a bond with the new dogs and begin their specialized police training. Dutch officers Menno van den Berg and Rober Toprakcan oversaw the training process.
Before their departure from Aruba, Interim Police Commissioner Gordon and K9 Unit Chief Richardson officially saw the officers off. In the Netherlands, Commissioner Ramon Arnhem met with the team in Nunspeet to observe the new police dogs and their progress.
The two young and capable dogs are now ready to join the KPA. One will specialize in drug detection, while the other will focus on identifying large sums of money.
This addition is part of the broader efforts to strengthen the Aruba Police Force as it enters a new phase of development. The force continues to invest in officers, equipment, and international partnerships to enhance its capabilities and stay up to date with modern policing strategies.
With these new additions, the K9 Unit is expanding its capacity to help protect the community and ensure the safety of both residents and visitors.
