On Saturday, April 26th, Aruba proudly celebrated the birthday of His Majesty King Willem-Alexander in honor of King’s Day.
The event took place in a joyful yet reflective atmosphere, marked by the farewell of a great spiritual leader, Pope Francis. Prime Minister Mike Eman delivered an inspiring speech, expressing that “today, we experience two profound emotions: joy in celebrating our King and sadness in bidding farewell to a Pope whose spiritual guidance illuminated the entire world.”
The Prime Minister highlighted the connection between celebration and farewell, emphasizing faith in our Creator, community unity, and the commitment to care for and guide the most vulnerable. He encouraged the people of Aruba to celebrate with joy, but also with humility and gratitude, acknowledging their responsibility as a united community, both in Aruba and in the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
“Let us celebrate with joy in our hearts, but also with honor and dignity for our Pope, whom we bid farewell today. Everything we receive from our Creator in this world is meant to guide us and provide us with the moral compass to lead our peoples down the right path,” the Prime Minister said.
The ceremony also took time to honor the exceptional contributions of young people in sports and the community. Governor Felipe B. Tromp presented the Governor’s Youth Cup to recognize these outstanding youths and the leaders who have guided them. This event serves as a tribute to the future of Aruba, highlighting the importance of investing in the next generation. Eighteen-year-old Richard Tromp was named the winner of the 2025 Governor’s Youth Cup.
Following the cultural performances, the Prime Minister, along with Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt and other guests, got to enjoy the vibrant parade of scouting groups, symbolizing Aruba’s youth, discipline, and hope for the future.
The ceremony reaffirmed that Aruba, united with the Kingdom of the Netherlands and guided by values of faith and moral leadership, is ready to face the future with hope and determination.
