Several traffic-related incidents occurred over the holiday weekend, leading to arrests and injuries across Aruba.
Early Sunday morning, around 6:00 am, police responded to an accident at the roundabout near Bowling, where a car had crashed into the roundabout. The vehicle contained a couple, neither of whom was injured. However, the male driver appeared to be under the influence and was uncooperative with authorities. Despite repeated efforts to address the situation, he resisted arrest. The woman accompanying him also intervened, physically confronting officers. Police had to push her to the ground before successfully detaining both individuals. Both were arrested and taken into custody. The vehicle sustained significant damage and was towed from the scene.

That same morning, another accident was reported on Sasaki Weg, near Super Food. A blue Corolla, traveling at high speed, left long skid marks before crashing into the roundabout. The vehicle sustained considerable damage, and at least one person was injured and transported to the hospital. A tow truck was called to remove the car from the scene.

In a separate incident Sunday afternoon, the driver of a black Hyundai was involved in a minor traffic accident on the Green Corridor. The accident occurred between the Drive In roundabout and the Ser’i Teishi area, near a softball field. According to the driver, she lost control of her vehicle while moving a bag of food. Although she reacted quickly, she was unable to prevent the car from hitting the guardrails, causing damage to the front of the vehicle.

These incidents highlight the importance of staying alert and cautious on the roads during holiday periods. Such times often bring increased traffic and a higher likelihood of impaired or reckless driving. Drivers are urged to exercise extra caution, avoid distractions, and refrain from driving under the influence.
