As part of his official visit to the Netherlands, Aruba’s Minister of Justice, Arthur Dowers, met with Zsolt Szabó, State Secretary for Kingdom Affairs. The meeting took place in a constructive and respectful setting, with a focus on cooperation, transparency, and sustainable development.
Several key topics were discussed:
- Undermining: Recognized as a serious threat to democratic and institutional systems. Both parties agreed it requires a comprehensive and collaborative response.
- Aruba–Netherlands cooperation: The current status of collaboration in the field of justice and efforts to strengthen institutional capacity were reviewed.
- Digitalization: Highlighted as a priority for modernizing Aruba’s justice system and ensuring more efficient, accessible services for the public.
- Aruba’s law and order system: The conversation also covered key institutions such as the Public Prosecutor’s Office, the police, the National Detective Agency (Landsrecherche), and other relevant bodies.
Minister Dowers outlined his national priorities in the justice sector, emphasizing the need to reinforce integrity, transparency, and effectiveness across the public safety system. He also shared Aruba’s position on the Landspakket, stressing that Kingdom cooperation must be grounded in mutual respect and realistic expectations for Aruba’s specific situation.
The meeting with Szabó marks another step in the AVP-Futuro Cabinet’s broader efforts to strengthen Aruba’s role within the Kingdom and to build a safer, more just, and modern society.
