Minister of Justice attends Integrity Protocol symposium

by Nicole

On Tuesday, July 8th, the first day of an important symposium took place, focusing on the Integrity Protocol—an essential topic for promoting good, responsible, and transparent governance. The protocol is part of a carefully prepared project designed to ensure that Aruba, Curaçao, Bonaire, and Sint Maarten can align and move forward together with a unified approach to integrity in public service.

The Minister of Justice, Arthur Dowers attended the symposium, which highlighted the importance of integrity within government institutions. The event was led by José Rosales, portfolio holder for Integrity, who, together with Oene Bouwman, helped create the guide that serves as the foundation for the new protocol.

The symposium began with sessions for government leaders, offering clear direction on how integrity should be integrated into every public decision and action. The afternoon was dedicated to key institutions, including the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Attorney General, who play a central role in maintaining accountability.

On Thursday and Friday, the focus will shift to members of the Aruba Police Force (KPA) and other organizations within the justice chain. These sessions aim to provide further information and guidance, helping all public officials understand what is expected of them, what to keep in mind, and how to prevent future breaches of integrity.

The Government of Aruba, working in close partnership with its sister islands, is making integrity a core element of its public administration. Through this symposium, the message is clear: integrity is not optional. It is the foundation for public trust and effective governance.
