Minister Wever: Government working hard to ensure sustainable tourism growth in Aruba

by Nicole

Minister of Finance Geoffrey Wever has highlighted that the Ministry of Tourism, in collaboration with the Aruba Tourism Authority (A.T.A.) and all tourism stakeholders, is actively working to strengthen and grow Aruba’s tourism sector. “For quite some time now, the Aruba Tourism Authority has been diversifying its strategy to attract visitors from other regions, such as Latin America. We’ve seen a sharp increase in that area as a result,” he said.

Minister Wever noted that different government departments are continuously addressing their responsibilities. In this case, the Ministry of Tourism is taking the lead, working closely with all relevant partners in the industry. Several developments are underway, and the Ministry has in-depth knowledge of these projects. It is actively coordinating with stakeholders and advisors to address the challenges and opportunities that arise.

“As part of our preparations for the Economic Outlook, we’re engaging in ongoing dialogue with all stakeholders to gather their input,” Wever explained. “Although this is a separate process, conversations and coordination around national issues are always happening.”

He added that, in this context, the primary responsibility falls to the Minister of Tourism and their partners in the industry.

Looking ahead to projections for 2026, Minister Wever noted that growth is expected to be more moderate due to capacity limits at the airport. “That’s one of the key factors,” he said. “However, this week we welcomed a former leader from AAA (the company managing Aruba’s airport) to assist with that specific area.”

He emphasized that many different elements are being addressed in partnership with a wide range of stakeholders, all working toward the shared goal of a sustainable and resilient tourism industry.
