New art book honors 75 years of the National Library of Aruba

by Nicole

To celebrate 75 years of service, the National Library of Aruba has released a special publication titled ‘Capital Humano … entre Buki y Arte‘. The project is a collaboration between the library and creative director, fashion designer, and curator Maria Teresa Madariaga.

This unique edition highlights works of art from the library’s national collection and offers readers a visual journey through the imagination and talent of local artists. The collection includes paintings, sculptures, mixed media, and mural art—each piece telling its own story.

These artworks are installed in public spaces where they can be enjoyed by people of all ages. The project was developed in collaboration with graphic designer and photographer Dennison Abrahams. The director of the National Library, Astrid Britten, proudly presented the publication.

Bringing public art to life

This initiative transforms the library into more than just a place for books. Stories now also appear on its walls and even on the building itself. The publication celebrates public art as a reflection of Aruban culture and the people who engage with it—visitors, creators, and the broader community.

These works go beyond decoration. They invite curiosity, spark conversation, and offer new perspectives on life. Readers are encouraged to explore the art that surrounds them in everyday spaces.

The publication features work by artists including Theo Brinkman, Belinda de Veer, Luis Alonso Castaño Benjumea, Nelson E. Gonzalez, Danilo Geerman, Natusha Croes, Maria LaTorre, Samuel Sarmiento, Robby Solognier, Wouter van Romondt, J.C. Lampe, Stan Kuiperi, Ciro Abath, Eefje van der Straten, Elvis Tromp, Olga van Bochove, Gina Jie Sam Foek, Gustave Nouel, Vanessa Paulina, Jenny Kock, Irene Peterson, Maritza Erasmus, King Lie Kwie, Elvis Lopez, Piet Vervoord, Alida Martinez, J. Donati, Armando Goedgedrag, Elisa Lejuez, Romelinda Maldonado, Cado de Lannoy, Ephraim R. Britten, Nigel Matthew, Pandellis, Evelino Fingal, and Gerard E. Alers.
