Monday, September 1st is set to be an important day for Aruba’s agricultural sector, especially for the Kock family, owners of the local egg production company PokPok. With support from the Government of Aruba, the company has been granted land to expand its operations.
At present, local farms supply only 14.2% of the eggs consumed in Aruba. The long-term goal is to meet 100% of demand through local production. With this expansion, PokPok aims to raise its share to 60% in the first phase, with plans to grow further in the years ahead. The government has emphasized that increasing local production is key to strengthening Aruba’s food security, and this project marks an important step in that direction.
Local bank AIB is also backing the initiative. Beyond providing the necessary financing, the bank has joined the project as a partner. This public–private collaboration is seen as vital for developing a strong and sustainable primary sector that can play a bigger role in Aruba’s economy.
The AVP-FUTURO 2025–2028 Governing Program highlights the importance of the primary sector in improving food security, building resilience, and supporting growth. Its priorities include granting land, streamlining processes, and boosting the commercial production of eggs and other agricultural products. The PokPok expansion is viewed as a model project that can inspire similar efforts across the island.
