The Aruba Police Force is warning the public about a growing scam in which criminals use social media to advertise cars that don’t actually exist.
The scammers typically claim they have left Aruba and are trying to sell a vehicle they supposedly left behind. They ask buyers to transfer money to an international bank account. After receiving the payment, the scammers promise to send someone to deliver the vehicle—but that delivery never happens.
Police urge the public not to send money for a car they haven’t seen or test-driven. They also advise people to be cautious when making purchases through social media and never to share personal details, such as bank account numbers, with strangers.
Be alert for fake profiles using false names or photos. If you suspect a scam, report it immediately. Anyone who believes they may have been a victim can file a complaint with the police. If you have information about these scams, you can also call the police anonymously at 11141.
