On Tuesday, April 23rd, Aruba’s Prime Minister, Mike Eman, met with the board of the Aruba Chamber of Commerce (KvK) at the Government Center, reaffirming the AVP-Futuro cabinet’s strong belief in dialogue as a vital tool for reaching decisions that significantly impact the country.
During the cabinet formation process, the AVP-Futuro team engaged with various stakeholders, including the Chamber of Commerce. The Chamber had requested that regular meetings be held on a structural basis once the new cabinet was officially in place. While the Chamber is recognized for its role in the commercial sector, it also expressed its commitment to thinking more broadly in the interest of Aruba as a whole.
A key topic discussed during the meeting was the need for a fairer contribution from the hotel sector toward Aruba’s development. According to the Prime Minister, the government does not intend to impose measures unilaterally. Instead, it is proposing a constructive dialogue to reach an agreement where the sector could contribute a bit more — both in terms of employee wages and overall contributions to government revenue.
The ultimate goal is to foster lasting cooperation between the government and the Chamber of Commerce, where every sector takes responsibility in ensuring Aruba’s sustainable progress.
