The AVP-FUTURO coalition government met recently to discuss the supplementary budget. During the meeting, several topics came up, including the situation of Mike de Meza.
Many people had been waiting to hear the outcome of this government meeting, eager to learn more about the search for a candidate to replace De Meza. Aruba’s Prime Minister, Mike Eman, explained that while there had been rumors and speculation, the purpose of the meeting was mainly to evaluate the government’s first 100 days in office. The discussion also focused on preparations to present the supplementary budget to the Parliament of Aruba. This is a crucial moment for the government as it reflects on the period since it took office.
The matter of De Meza was also addressed. According to Eman, he gave the coalition an update and confirmed that the process of finding a replacement had begun on Tuesday. The Prime Minister said he has been in contact with the parliamentarian and has discussed various pending matters in the portfolio, which remain important. The coalition has been informed that this process is now underway.
Mike de Meza had originally been nominated to serve as a minister, but complications during his integrity screening have prevented him from taking office. Reports indicate he is under investigation in a fiscal case, which has blocked his appointment under Aruba’s screenings law.
It is now up to the AVP party to put forward a candidate. According to the Prime Minister, no names have been decided yet.
