Residents living near the gully in Canashito are raising concerns about swarms of flies and an increasingly unpleasant situation that forces them to keep their doors shut.
When 24ora.com visited the area, we observed a privately owned lot located right next to the Canashito dump. The property is accessible to multiple vehicles, and both trucks and pickups were seen entering to unload trash.
According to one resident, complaints have been filed for months with the relevant authorities and through legal channels to address what is happening on the property. The response they received is that the land is private, and the owners reportedly applied for a permit to dump sand and construction blocks on the lot. However, that permit is still being processed.
Neighbors suspect that the plan is to fill the lot with waste, cover it with sand, and eventually build houses on top.
The situation on the property and in the gully has gotten completely out of hand. It’s no longer just sand being dumped—there is all kinds of trash, including boxes, paper, broken old furniture, wood, clothing, and even washing machines. The area has now become known in the community as the “mini dump.” A truck was even seen spreading sand over the trash to cover it, creating a mound almost level with the nearby road.
It is unclear what type of permit is needed to open a dumping site like this, but the situation is spiraling out of control. Garbage is now spilling onto the road, and some people have even started leaving their bags of trash along the roadside.
