The Aruba Red Cross was one of the first organizations to respond to the government’s call for support during the camping season. With the backing of various partners, the Red Cross quickly mobilized additional volunteers to assist during the crucial days. At Baby Beach, they established a dedicated post, fully equipped to provide first aid in case of emergencies.
The government extended its sincere thanks to Marla Thiel-Dominguez of the Red Cross and Board President Stephen Daal for their continued commitment and readiness to serve the community.
According to Thiel-Dominguez, the Red Cross maintains two patrol units during the season. One monitors the area between Santo Largo and Baby Beach, while the other stays alert between Baby Beach and Zwart Mangel, passing through the dog cemetery. Their efforts stand as a strong example of volunteerism, solidarity, and dedication to Aruba.

Ahead of Holy Week, the government held a meeting with key stakeholders, where it also appealed to the Aruba Hotel and Tourism Association (AHATA) for equipment to improve monitoring in high-traffic beach areas. In response, AHATA donated binoculars and funded the rental of two UTVs for the Red Cross. Prime Minister Mike Eman expressed his gratitude to Tisa LaSorte and AHATA for their ongoing collaboration and support in promoting the safety of both residents and visitors.
The Prime Minister used the moment to issue a reminder to the community, particularly to parents and guardians:
- Keep a close eye on children and minors;
- Avoid entering the sea immediately after eating;
- If someone has a medical condition, do not let them enter the water unsupervised;
- Stay alert and look out for others, especially in the water.

In light of recent tragic incidents, the Prime Minister announced that the government would initiate discussions with the Red Cross, the Aruba Tourism Authority (ATA), AHATA, and other organizations to explore structural solutions for improving beach safety. The aim is to prevent future tragedies and better protect both locals and tourists.
Earlier in the week, Prime Minister Eman and Minister of Tourism Wendrick Cicilia convened a meeting with the Beach Police, Aruba Police Force (KPA), AHATA, ATA, and the Red Cross to develop a safety and management plan for the Holy Week period. While the camping season is a cherished time for family bonding, it also calls for preparation, increased vigilance, and shared responsibility to ensure the well-being of everyone involved.
