Early Sunday morning, at around 1:26 am, a fire broke out at Madiki 45. Firefighters arrived quickly and worked to control the flames, but the fire spread fast because several wooden rooms were connected.
Soon after, neighbors and residents informed responders that an elderly woman was still inside the house.
Firefighters managed to put out the blaze and then entered the apartment. Inside, they discovered a lifeless body.
The victim was identified as Clomene Pierre, born in Haiti on July 6th, 1960. She had worked for many years in the housekeeping department at Divi Resort and had recently retired just weeks ago after turning 65. Her health had been declining, and she had difficulty walking.

A relative, Mathurin Lovius, said he does not believe the fire was accidental. He explained that this was the second time her apartment had caught fire, both times during the early morning while she was asleep. He stated he is 90% certain that someone is responsible for her death.
After extinguishing the fire, forensic police found the body in the bathroom, buried under debris. A funeral home removed the remains, and the prosecutor ordered the body to be taken for further investigation.
Our deepest condolences go out to the victim’s family.
