Aruba Police form a part of the crime prevention program in Miami

A group of police officers from Aruba, Sint Maarten, and other Caribbean islands are in Miami to form a part of the crime prevention program.

Julio Blanco, a police officer from the Miami Beach PD, indicated that the teams from the Caribbean islands are seeking them out and learning about the community policing aspects. They learned about crime prevention through environmental design. The group learned about light, crime prevention programs, community programs, fake base programs, and working with children in schools. All of these are part of the crime prevention training program that Miami Beach PD has prepared.

A total of fifteen police participated in this program, and Blanco is the instructor from the Miami Beach PD. Various police departments are joining this week so they can learn how others deal with crime prevention. He explained that each department has a different style.

Blanco expressed that the meeting was fantastic, and the police officers were happy to be there. The fifteen policemen are exposed to modern policing and learn about modern technology.

Part of the community program is the communication unit. The communication unit is teaching them how to put messages on Instagram, Facebook, and other social media. So, they are also learning that part.

When these policemen return home, the biggest goal, according to Blanco, is to establish a community program. But every community is different. They have to go back and see what works best for each community and ultimately work with the children. Children are the future, which means that the policemen will work with them, and participate as mentors in sports. That’s one of the goals of the program.
