Scouting Aruba celebrates St. Joris Day

Every April 23rd, St. Joris Day is celebrated in honor of the patron saint of Scouting. Since April 23 falls within the week, Scouting Aruba celebrated it on April 20th. Christopher Lake is the chief commissioner of Scouting Aruba. During an interview in Noord, he mentioned that this day is extremely special for the scouting movement. Scouting is the largest youth organization worldwide. Scouting Aruba joins in and organizes a ceremony to commemorate this special day.

It serves to remind young people of the Scout promise and to contribute to a better world, providing good support to the community. Importantly, it’s about coming together. The courage of our youth to face everyday problems, but the way to address them and find solutions is important. Scouting ensures the creation of more leaders in our community.

At the end of the ceremony, the most social and scout-spirited part takes place around a campfire. Everyone throws a rose into the campfire and makes a wish. Scouting Aruba has between 400 to 450 active members. They are open to new members, starting from 5 years old, and are also always happy to accept more volunteer leaders from 18 years and older.
