New car for the police chief: “I didn’t want the car”

Recently, the police commissioner Ramon Arnhem, received a new car for carrying out his duties. It’s not a question of him not having a car before. Just a year ago, he received a brand-new Hyundai Tucson. However, according to the rules, the current police commissioner should have the same type of car as the police patrols.

As part of the police car handover, Arnhem also came up to receive a car. The Ford Everest is the same type of vehicle as the patrols. The car is fully equipped with police lights and sirens. For Arnhem, the car feels too big, and he’s not someone who worries about material things.

However, due to the protocol and rules, the police chief automatically receives this upgraded vehicle. This is not a new situation; every police commissioner before him had the same type of car as the patrols. Unlike previous commissioners, however, Arnhem was reluctant and questioned the necessity of this upgrade. This is a stark contrast to previous scenarios in which the vehicle was oftentimes used 24/7, and even for personal matters.
