Rebecca and Christiaan Jansen won gold medals during a triathlon in Puerto Rico

The Jansen siblings traveled to Puerto Rico last week to participate in a development camp where countries in our region took part. During a week-long stay, they trained in the mornings and evenings. During the camp, they underwent tests including swimming, cycling, and running. It must be said that the Jansen siblings performed their tests with very good results.

On Saturday morning, the Jansen siblings teamed up with Costa Rica to participate in a Mixed Relay race, where they managed to reach the podium and secure second place, after Team Colombia.

Early Sunday morning, the athletes were summoned to compete in the 2024 World Triathlon Development Regional Cup in Puerto Rico. The athletes completed a Sprint Triathlon where they had to swim 750m, bike 20km, and run 5km. Rebecca Jansen started, coming out fourth from the water but took the lead on the bike and managed to enter first into the transition. Rebecca led the race on foot until the final lap where a Costa Rican athlete passed her. Rebecca completed her Sprint Triathlon in 01:09:33, securing second place in the Elite category and earning a gold medal in the Junior category.

Next up was her brother, Christiaan Jansen, who came out third from the water and led the cycling leg along with an elite athlete from Panama. The athletes worked together and opened a gap over the rest of the competitors. Christiaan completed his race in a tremendous time of 58:57, just seconds behind the elite athlete from Panama. Christiaan also earned a gold medal in the Junior category.

Rebecca and Christiaan thank the Aruba Triathlon Association for this wonderful opportunity. They wholeheartedly thank everyone who has helped in their development. Their next international commitment is the Americas Triathlon Cup and Central America and Caribbean Championships in Punta Cana, scheduled for the end of June.
