Hospital Occupancy Sees Another Increase

Trust and transparency are important to Horacio Oduber Hospital, so they are once again sharing the figures for April 2024 with the Aruban community. These figures from HOH Aruba indicate how many patients the hospital treats monthly, the average length of stay, the number of surgeries, the number of diagnostic tests performed by the radiology department, and more.

In March, 780 patients were hospitalized, and in April, this number rose to 828 patients. Interestingly, of the 828 patients admitted, 32.4% were planned admissions. The average length of stay at HOH in April was 4.4 days, which is higher than in March (4.1 days). In April, bed occupancy once again increased to 93.7%, which is 8.8% higher than in March.

A total of 577 surgeries took place in our operating rooms, which is more than the 514 surgeries that took place during the month of March. As previously mentioned, there were more hospitalizations in April. This serves as an indication that the number of surgeries also increased.

The Emergency Department tended to 2704 patients in April, of which 41.3% did not require emergency care.

In April, 45 baby boys and 25 baby girls were born (totaling 80 babies). The Aruba Blood Bank received a total of 193 blood donations in April.

Specialists in the hospital provided a total of 7087 patient consultations, which is 296 more than in March and 732 more than in February. The radiology department conducted a total of 3970 tests such as CT scans, MRIs, echocardiograms, and more. This figure is lower than in March, as some radiology tests had to be rescheduled due to ongoing construction work at the hospital. A total of 11,263 people visited LABHOH in April for diagnostic tests. In April, a total of 791 patients were discharged from the hospital and returned home.

The hospital thanks all 1200 of its employees for their continuous efforts and reminds the community that HOH is always there!
