Local businesses preparing to explore opportunities during the Trade Mission to Suriname

Last Thursday, during an event marking an important step in Aruba’s foreign trade, local merchants gathered at the Department of Economic Affairs at Sun Plaza to learn more about the upcoming Trade Mission set to take place in June.

Sharon Meijer-van der Linden, head of the external economic relations and business development department at the Department of Economic Affairs and Industry, explained that this informational session is designed to prepare local entrepreneurs for a Trade Mission to Suriname. She revealed there was palpable enthusiasm among the 56 Aruban entrepreneurs and merchants present.

“The purpose of this meeting is to equip our entrepreneurs with the information and tools necessary to make the most of the upcoming Trade Mission to Suriname,” Meijer-van der Linden stated. From export logistics to details about accommodation and costs, participants had the opportunity to receive specific guidance and ask direct questions related to their commercial interests in this South American country.

During the exchange, various inquiries arose regarding travel dates, B2B networking opportunities, and potential future participation. Meijer-van der Linden emphasized that those who could not attend the event still have the opportunity to join the Trade Mission, highlighting the importance of exploring new business opportunities in a growing market.

The Trade Mission, scheduled from June 24 to 28, promises three intensive days of activities designed to connect Aruban entrepreneurs with key business partners in Suriname. Sectors such as agriculture and construction are particularly in focus, offering entrepreneurs the chance to expand their horizons and establish solid commercial relationships in the region.

“This event is more than just a simple Trade Mission; it is an opportunity to strengthen commercial ties between Aruba and Suriname and foster mutual economic growth,” Meijer-van der Linden expressed. Additionally, she highlighted that the comprehensive Trade Mission package includes accommodation, transportation, and meals, making participation accessible and convenient for all interested parties.
