Inauguration of Blenchi Residence: FCCA Addresses Housing Needs for the Elderly

In an effort to meet the growing demand for accessible and affordable housing for senior citizens, the housing foundation for the Aruban community (FCCA) proudly inaugurated the “Blenchi” (hummingbird) Residence. Located in the former Perle d’Or complex at Boegoeroei 11, this new residence is exclusively dedicated to the 55+ community.

The decision to convert this complex into a senior residence stemmed from FCCA’s understanding of the ongoing need for suitable housing for this age group. According to Jessica van Montfoort-Posner, FCCA’s marketing and communications officer, the waiting list shows that 49% of housing applicants are seniors aged 55 and older, and 79% of them are seeking one-bedroom apartments. With 48 of such apartments, Blenchi Residence presents an ideal solution for individuals or couples at this stage of life.

This is not FCCA’s first senior housing project in Aruba, with five other residences already in operation on the island. These initiatives aim to create peaceful and centrally located environments that promote the well-being of their residents.

Blenchi Residence offers multiple benefits. In addition to its rapid renovation and reasonable cost, it provides amenities that improve residents’ quality of life, such as a well-maintained garden, a spacious gazebo for meet ups, and a pool. Its strategic location near important commercial establishments further facilitates residents’ daily lives and allows for potential future expansion within the complex.

This project would not have been possible without the collaborative effort of various involved parties. FCCA thanks all contributors, from contractors to FCCA employees, for their hard work in realizing Blenchi Residence.

Jessica emphasizes FCCA’s ongoing commitment to providing accessible and affordable housing for all, thus promoting a healthy environment and the well-being of the community. With more projects on the horizon, FCCA remains steadfast in its mission to meet the housing needs of Arubans of all ages.

Beyond providing accessible and comfortable homes, Blenchi Residence is also conceived as a space that fosters social interaction and the emotional well-being of its residents. The complex’s design includes carefully planned common areas, such as a large gazebo, where residents can meet, socialize, and participate in recreational activities. Additionally, FCCA’s housing and neighborhood management team is committed to organizing events and programs that promote community participation and the personal enrichment of residents.

With a strategic location near essential services and amenities, such as Do-it Center and Save More, Blenchi Residence offers residents the convenience of having everything they need within reach. Proximity to these essential commercial facilities not only facilitates access to products and services but also promotes greater autonomy and quality of life for community residents.

Looking ahead, FCCA is committed to continuing to expand its offer of accessible and affordable housing in Aruba. With additional projects in development, the organization is determined to meet the changing needs of the population, ensuring that all Arubans have access to a safe and comfortable home. With Blenchi Residence as a standout example of its commitment, FCCA continues to play a crucial role in improving the quality of life of the community and promoting the well-being of all generations.
