Aruba will be represented in Mexico in the “Master of the Crafts”

On Tuesday at The Ritz Carlton, a competition was held in two categories: mixology and culinary. The two winners are Jorge Sabino in mixology and Jordel Doyley in culinary. Both winners will compete in Mexico against others from around the world.

Arantxa Sanchez, HR supervisor at The Ritz Carlton, expressed extreme pride that both women and men participated in the Marriott’s international competition, “Master of the Crafts.” There were eleven participants in the culinary category and seven in mixology.

In the culinary category, participants received a secret ingredient, which was “mushrooms.” Participants had to create something focusing on this secret ingredient. They were extremely surprised by the various ideas the participants came up with to prepare dishes with the mushrooms. The winner is Jordel Doyley, who works at BLT Steak House. The winners will represent the hotel in Mexico at the “Master of the Crafts.”

In the mixology category, participants had to use the famous walishali plant. Sanchez expressed surprise at this ingredient. Participants invented delicious drinks. They could invent different liqueurs, but had to include walishali. Jorge Sabino, who works at the pool beach bar, won in this category. He thanked the chefs, Andres, Ever, Rachel, Louella, who are the general managers at Turks & Caicos.

Jorge Sabino, mixology winner, explained that this was his third time participating. He enjoyed it, and each year it gets harder. He had lost the previous two years, but this time he set a goal to win.

Sabino said it was very difficult to describe the feeling when the judges liked his drink. He thought he wouldn’t win because the competition was tough. Among them was last year’s winner, the Marriott winner; there was quite a competition. When he heard his name, he was thrilled.

He will represent The Ritz Carlton Aruba in Mexico and emphasized that valuable experience is not something that can be taught. Sabino has been doing this job for fourteen years and loves mixology. He will continue to study new techniques and flavors, which are now taking place. He will ensure that he is well prepared for the competition in Mexico.
