DMA is monitoring the development of the tropical system

We received information through a Facebook post made by Curacao that there is an active tropical wave situated on the Atlantic Ocean, headed in the direction Northwest.

The area of interest currently has an 80% chance of developing into a storm within the next five days and will reach the most eastern Caribbean islands by this coming Friday.

We had a talk with the acting director of the Aruban Meteorology Department (DMA), Dave Barkmeyer, who confirmed that there was growth occurring, but that there is nothing to worry about.

This morning’s update

According to the update that they put both on their website at www.meteo.aw as well as on their Facebook page @meteo Aruba, they are indicating that the tropical wave will be moving westward at a velocity of 15 knots.

This growth is under observation and there is a chance that its size will increase slightly. The eye of the tropical wave is heading west. There is little chance that the wave will be moving westward at a rapid pace.

As for the Caribbean Ocean and the local region, the edge of the system is under r a lot of pressure from the Atlantic Ocean. This will result in a steady moderate and slightly cooler wind flow with possible strong bursts of wind in between.

The system will be moving in the Eastern part of the Caribbean and through our local area for today until Thursday, with most of its active time is centered around the northern part of our island.

There will likely be some rainfall and possible thunder and lightning at the end of the day stretching into Thursday morning and night.

Besides that, the sand from the Sahara will be present in various degrees during the next few days. It is advised that all those who have a sensitive respiratory system take the necessary precautions to prevent any possible complications.

With regards to the ocean, operators of small boats must practice caution when treading the eastern and northeastern part of the island during the next few days to prevent getting caught in the rain.

Stay pending for further developments after 5:00 pm today.
