Gym Teacher Arrested for sexually abusing a minor

Gym teacher Emerlindo Robles de Medina has been arrested. He was detained on Friday under suspicion of committing immoral acts with a student who attended the school “Sagrado Curason” in Savaneta. The victim, now a teenager living in Europe, recounted the incidents to professionals in the Netherlands, revealing what happened to them several years ago. The teenager’s behavior prompted the parents to seek professional help, through which the child disclosed what happened at the school in Savaneta. The family was in shock. With a letter from the professionals, the parents filed a report in Aruba several weeks ago, which started the investigation.

The members of the “Jeugd en Zeden Politie” (JZP) are taking all statements and analyzing everything. They are sending the material to the Public Prosecutor’s Office, where the prosecutor will review the case and make a decision. In this case, the prosecutor gave the green light to detain Emerlindo Robles de Medina. This teacher frequently travels abroad with minors for competitions. It was believed he would be detained upon returning from his most recent trips. He was, however, finally arrested on Friday and underwent a preliminary interrogation. On Sunday, with his lawyer present, he was interrogated again. Gradually, all the evidence will be presented for him to respond to. Currently, there is only one complaint against the teacher. It is unknown if more accusations will surface during this process. The teacher’s behavior has previously been flagged as concerning.

An intern who was uncomfortable with how the teacher treated the minors reported it to IPA. This intern was subsequently removed from the school. It wasn’t just this intern; another intern also noticed the teacher’s inappropriate behavior towards the students and authorities have also been informed about this teacher int he past. Despite the IPA intern flagging the inappropriate behavior, nothing happened initially. Unfortunately, if there is insufficient evidence provided by this initial report, it could complicate and weaken the case.
