Minister Geoffrey Wever: Wilhelminastraat is open once again!

“We are pleased to announce that Wilhelminastraat is open again to traffic. The renovation and partial beautification work in the area is progressing on schedule, and we are happy that today, Monday, May 27th, the road could be reopened,” said Minister Geoffrey Wever.

These activities are part of the overall plan to revitalize Oranjestad. In the near future, the next phase will begin: renovating and expanding the parking area, and increasing visibility to achieve safer and more accessible parking.

The next project will be taking place in San Nicolas, then we’ll return to Oranjestad to finalize the project in the Wilhelminastraat area.

“We are aware that infrastructure renovation alone is not enough to revitalize Oranjestad. Therefore, we are working to address the key issues in the city center area by area, implementing a holistic approach, attending to each area separately to increase the probability of success,” according to Minister Wever. This approach aims to reduce the less positive effects, while also considering the limitations of funding and the current shortage of workforce in Aruba.

Soon, other non-infrastructural efforts will be announced to contribute to the revitalization of the Wilhelminastraat/Columbusstraat area.
