Minister Arends: This week RWZI Parkietenbos can reopen

For some time now, the government decided to close the wastewater treatment plant (RWZI) at Parkietenbos. This was because the incinerator could no longer be used.

The sludge, which is sewage residue that had been accumulating for some time, was not able to be burned in the incinerator, which made the Parkietenbos facility unable to remain in service. It became a concerning situation for truck owners who transport sewage in Aruba. The government directed all trucks to Zeewijk to dispose of sewage water.

Of course, the difference in distance caused the trucks to increase their service charge by an additional 25 florins. At that time, the government promised that Parkietenbos would reopen within two weeks, but that never happened. Now the time has come to reopen it.

During a government press conference, the Minister of Nature, Ursell Arends, was asked about the plant. According to Arends, the court has recently given the “okay” to use the incinerator and thus start processing the sludge. The quantity has decreased, so now RWZI at Parkietenbos can become operational again. If everything goes well, RWZI will reopen this week as well, but the minister is awaiting official confirmation from DOW.
