Pride Foundation with an Urgent Call: Crucial Vote in Parliament to Legalize Same-Sex Marriage

Fundacion Orguyo (Pride Foundation) is making an urgent appeal to all members of the Aruba Parliament to cast their decisive vote on the initiative law that will introduce same-sex marriage on our beloved island. The previous vote ended in a tie, making the June 19th vote crucial. Another tie will result in the rejection of this essential legislation, which is a setback we cannot afford, as stated by the foundation in a recent press release.

Their statement reads, “The benefit of this law may not have a significant impact on you personally, but it could be of immense importance to a loved one, a sibling, child, niece, nephew, grandchild, cousin, neighbor, coworker, and/or friends whom we all care about.”

This law will impact the following points for the country of Aruba:

Positive Impact of the Law on Well-being and Mental Health:

  • It will improve the mental health and well-being of LGBTQ+ individuals
  • Everyone will have the same rights and recognition
  • It will reduce stigma and discrimination

Bullying and Discrimination:

  • It will send a strong message against bullying and discrimination in schools and workplaces
  • Our youth will grow up in an environment that values equality and respect

Economic Benefit:

  • Aruba will position itself on the list of progressive and inclusive destinations.
  • It will attract more tourists and boost our tourism industry at a higher level.

Social Harmony:

  • It will promote social harmony and the values of a diverse community
  • It will help minimize division and create a more supportive society

It is important to note that a vote in favor of this law is NOT a vote against anyone’s religion. The legislation aims to ensure equal rights for all, while respecting the diversity of personal beliefs and values of each individual.

Consequences of a Negative Vote or a Tie:

Reputation Damage:

  • Failing to pass the law will tarnish Aruba’s reputation on an international level
  • This will discourage tourists who prefer destinations that uphold equality and human rights

Social Tension:

  • Continued exclusion and discrimination will exacerbate mental health issues and social tensions
  • It will hinder our progress as a just and fair society

Economic Impact:

  • A negative vote or a tie could lead to a loss of tourism revenue
  • This will impact businesses and employment, ultimately affecting our economy

“We urge all members of Parliament to consider these points and cast their vote in favor of the initiative law to introduce same-sex marriage. This vote affirms our commitment to equality, mental well-being, and economic prosperity for everyone living on the island. Let’s not allow the politics of a few to have negative consequences for the rest of the community.”
