Project fails: Investment for nothing

In February 2023, a private contractor delivered Phase 2 of the Hooiberg project, a project 100% funded by the Tourism Product Enhancement Fund (TPEH) and the Aruba Tourism Authority.

It didn’t last long, however, because within a year people started to notice a total decline and lack of maintenance on the stairs. The cement was cracking, the iron tubes were broken, and much more. It can be concluded that the private company did a poor job.

Now that the damage is done, DOW has been asked to fix the project. Considering the situation they encountered, they decided to remove all the iron tubes. They repaired some of the broken steps and ensured that, at least for now, locals and tourists can continue to use the Hooiberg steps.

Early Thursday morning, a total of five DOW pickups arrived at the Hooiberg and immediately took action to fix the work that the contractor had done.
