Group of investors pleased with positive development in downtown

The Wilhelminastraat Investors Group Aruba is very pleased with the recent development in downtown Oranjestad. Especially in Wilhelminastraat, a notable transformation is underway, thanks to the continuous efforts of, among others, Minister Geoffrey Wever, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Telecommunications and Sustainable Development, DOW, Monumentenfonds, APFA, and other involved organizations.

Together with the team that supports the Wilhelminastraat Investors Group, significant changes are being achieved for Oranjestad. Improvements in infrastructure, preservation of cultural heritage, and strengthening community spirit play a crucial role in redefining Wilhelminastraat and its surrounding areas.

Infrastructure Improvements

In recent months, significant progress has been made in the improvement of infrastructure in Wilhelminastraat. Among other things, phase 2 of the revitalization work around “Plaza Comercio” was finalized at the end of May.

The next phase of this project will focus on renovating and expanding the parking lot, aiming to create safer and more accessible parking. This project will not only enhance convenience for visitors but also increase visibility and make the area more attractive.

Preservation of Cultural Heritage

Another important aspect of revitalization is the preservation and restoration of iconic buildings in Wilhelminastraat. An example of this is the restoration of “Cas Veneranda,” funded by APFA. This project is currently in its demolition phase and preparing for a public tender. The restored building will house the Department of Economic Affairs and will include a public space for private gatherings and a restaurant space.

This initiative strengthens economic vitality in the city center while preserving its historical character.

Development and New Projects

There are ambitious plans for the building at Wilhelminastraat 40, better known as the former police station. The development of a boutique hotel at this location will significantly contribute to the revitalization of Wilhelminastraat. In addition to this project, the same development group is working on another major renovation project between Van Walbeeckstraat and Nieuwstraat, specifically Adrian Lacle’s house, which will surely make the city center more attractive. Also, the building on Zoutmanstraat, formerly housing the Chamber of Commerce, is undergoing a transformation; the renovated building will become the new office of Atlas Risk Solutions.

During the month of June, special attention is given to cleaning our city center, maintaining and planting greenery, and replacing the trash containers. These activities are just the beginning of a series of efforts that will soon be announced, all aimed at revitalizing the Wilhelminastraat/Columbusstraat area.

The Wilhelminastraat Investors Group Aruba remains dedicated to transforming our city center in Oranjestad. We continue to encourage all efforts to improve its infrastructure, preserve its cultural heritage, and initiate new projects. This will make the city center an attractive destination for locals and visitors alike.

These positive developments are just the beginning of a bright future for Oranjestad!
