Minister Wever met with port operators in Suriname to accelerate cargo logistics

The Minister of Economic Affairs, Geoffrey Wever, traveled to Suriname with a delegation for a Trade Mission. During this visit, they toured various places and also made contact with business owners. One of the places the minister visited was the port.

The minister explained that they received an invitation to visit Suriname’s port facilities. This was to see how the logistics process at the port operates. They received explanations about the operations from two operators and how the processes are managed. They also met with the CEO of the company to ensure that interest and contact is maintained.

Wever explained that upon returning to Aruba, they can ‘build on’ these contacts, which is something that comes from the Government of Aruba, which seeks to support traders at this level. Right now, attention is focused at the governmental level, but also on transportation companies at the port level.

Minister Wever believes that this will help when containers or Aruban traders are active to know that this is part of the outcome of the Trade Mission.

The port has already established an alliance with the Dutch Caribbean. The minister explained that they visited one of the operators, a large company with several investments in various areas. This operator is involved in insurance, real estate, as well as in different parts of the Kingdom, including the Netherlands. They already have commercial interests as well as a partner in Aruba, and that will facilitate logistics further.
