Commercial Mission concludes with Networking Event at Dutch Embassy

The Commercial Mission to Suriname was organized over the period of several months. On June 24th, Minister Wever and his delegation, consisting of the Chamber of Commerce, the Department of Economic Affairs, ATIA, and a total of thirteen businesspeople, departed for Suriname.

The trip had an intensive program where Minister Wever met with the President of Suriname, Chandrikapersad “Chan” Santokhi, as well as with the Minister of Economy, the Minister of Transportation, and the Minister of Agriculture to strengthen commercial ties between Aruba and Suriname. During this mission, our businesspeople also had the opportunity to meet with Surinamese businesses to establish valueable connections.

To conclude this mission, the Dutch Ambassador to Suriname, Walter Oosterbos, organized a networking event at his residence. Here, the Ambassador expressed his pride in seeing Aruba and Suriname actively exploring possibilities and opportunities for the benefit of both countries. In his speech, Ambassador Oosterbos emphasized that he is there for Aruba as well, since he is the Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and not just of the Netherlands itself, so he is there to help Aruba and its businesspeople too. The Ambassador invited many Surinamese businesspeople to his residence so they could network with the Aruban delegation.

“I am very grateful for the cooperation we received in Suriname,” Minister Wever began. “We had the opportunity to speak with various stakeholders and officials in the short time we were in Suriname to take the first steps in exploring the possibilities and opportunities to make commercial ties closer between Aruba and Suriname. Our delegation was truly warmly received and well treated in Suriname, and I believe everyone who participated in this commercial mission is satisfied. Now the work begins.”

Minister Wever thanks the Department of Economic Affairs, the Chamber of Commerce, and ATIA for organizing and joining the commercial mission, as well as all the businesspeople who accompanied them during the commercial mission. In this way, we demonstrate that when the government works together with the private sector, we stand much stronger.
