Hurricane Beryl has escalated to category 4: its tail could impact Aruba

Hurricane Beryl has become a category 4 in the last 24 hours, the first major hurricane of the 2024 Atlantic and Caribbean season.

Observing Hurricane Beryl’s Wobble, the latest projections consulted with various partners, including Meteo Aruba, regional authorities, and KNMI responsible for the BES islands, have reached the following forecast.

The new projection indicates less impact on Barbados and more impact on Saint Vincent and The Grenadines, as Hurricane Beryl has shifted further south in the last 24 hours.

In the regional Task Force, there is concern for assistance after Hurricane BERYL passes, as there is another tropical system following a similar trajectory, which could affect Saint Vincent and The Grenadines.

Based on current data, Hurricane Beryl is expected to pass by Monday into Tuesday morning at a distance between 280 to 320 km north of the ABC islands.

CMO, Meteo Aruba, KNMI, and regional partners will continue monitoring the ABC islands for any unusual developments with Hurricane Beryl and to better understand the hurricane’s path if it could influence or impact Aruba with torrential rainfall or local effects.

CMO will remain vigilant and inform the community through local press of any developments regarding Hurricane Beryl, in case there could be an impact on Aruba, based on the latest 24-hour observations.

Meteo Aruba has issued a warning for small boats owners on Monday morning. Considering the current distance and Beryl’s category, the sea will become rough in the coming days, posing a direct danger to beachgoers.
