DVG National STEPS 2023 Investigation: 19% of the Population Suffers from High Blood Pressure

In 2023, the Department of Public Health, in collaboration with WHO/PAHO and the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS), organized a national investigation named STEPS 2023.

The goal of STEPS 2023 was to collect valuable information about the health of our community so that organizations responsible for public health management can receive an up-to-date view of our population’s health and understand the risk factors that can lead to chronic diseases. By knowing these risk factors, different organizations can develop new management strategies aimed at improving the health of our people.

Regarding the topic of high blood pressure, the National STEPS investigation concluded that 19% of Aruba’s adult population has high blood pressure.

Among those aged 18 to 29, 9% of the population has high blood pressure, and 43% of the population aged 60 to 69 has high blood pressure. High blood pressure increases with age and is more common among men than women.

High blood pressure leads to heart-, artery-, vision-, and kidney problems, and can also lead to strokes.

The time has come for us to take a step for our health and change our habits. Are you ready?
