Online Business Workshop offers valuable information for potential investors

On July 2nd, 2024, an online workshop was held via Microsoft Teams, focusing on the topic: “Tax Considerations for Dutch Investors.” This workshop is part of a series of events following the Aruba Investment Summit held last March in the Netherlands. The event was organized by Minister Geoffrey Wever with the main goal of attracting more investors to our island, especially in the areas of commercial agriculture as well as investments in downtown Oranjestad and San Nicolas.

This informative session, facilitated by EY Dutch Caribbean, was organized by the Ministry of Economic Affairs together with the ARINA unit (Aruba Investment Agency). ARINA, established not long ago by Minister Wever, aims to guide potential investors interested in Aruba. During this free workshop, participants were given a comprehensive overview of the subtle differences between tax laws applicable in the Netherlands and Aruba, as well as their similarities.

The workshop provided valuable information to the participants. Some of the topics that received attention during this session were: direct and indirect taxes, fiscal benefits and cost deductions, aspects of investing in Aruba, preferential regimes such as Freezones, sustainable investment, recent developments in taxation, to name a few.

“We hope that we have provided participants with the necessary information for their calculations. In this way, we can diversify the pool of investors in Aruba. Investor appetites vary among countries. The benefit of diversifying investments brings about an expansion of expertise, contributing directly and indirectly to diversifying our economy. Dutch investors are known for their expertise in HORECA and commercial agriculture, and it is with this focus that we went to the Netherlands,” commented Minister Wever.

The hope is that they will consider Aruba a valuable destination for investment. More informative sessions will be held in the future, and efforts will be made to expand the group of interested parties. Thanks to Anushka Lew Jen Tai and Stefan van Riezen from EY Dutch Caribbean for facilitating the session.
