For the first time: stylist from Aruba at Miss Universe

Roberto Jose Avalo Malave is a local stylist whose dream of being a stylist at Miss Universe has become a reality.

In July 2023, he went and participated in a very tough casting with 125 people from different parts of the world. Despite the tough competition and with a lot of effort and dedication, he managed to make it into the top 6. Unfortunately, last year he didn’t get the chance to shine. But this year in the Dominican Republic was the perfect place for this dream to finally come true. This year, he competed for the second time with 50 stylists from all over the world. The challenge was just as difficult, but perseverance and consistency prevailed. The most important thing is to have confidence in yourself, never lose it.

This is the result of two years of hard work, preparing for this process and now, finally, being able to say ‘I did it!’ Aruba has its first stylist at Miss Universe.

Now there are so many things, so many opportunities opening up on this journey, but the most important thing is to focus on delivering a positive message, to show what Aruba’s beauty industry has to offer to the world. Avalos continued, saying ‘I am happy with this representation, that my work in Miss Universe will be a beautiful story for Aruba’s beauty history as a country. Taryn Mansell started writing the story and Roberto Avalos will continue writing the story to help Aruba reach further in Miss Universe.’

As a Venezuelan immigrant, it’s not easy to say that you can achieve a place in a society where you’re new. In his 11 years in Aruba, he worked very hard to get to where he is now, owner of his own business, known for his work in Aruba’s beauty world. Currently working with Prime Minister Mr. Evelyn Wever-Croes and recently with different beauty organizations in Aruba.

Furthermore, Avalo indicated that this is just the beginning of the positive message he wants to bring forward as a person, as a human, as an immigrant. But more than anything, giving back to the country that he now calls home, everything he has given in the process, that has helped him, supported him, and that he believed in. Roberto will accompany Miss Aruba in this same universe.

Finally, Avalo indicated that he cannot leave out the people of the Dominican Republic, who opened their doors to all the participants who went to compete there. At the same time, the work group that organized this Master Class, Lidiana Rodríguez, the owner, Andrés Felipe Cabrera, who made the dream of all the artists and stylists a reality.

Certainly, Miss Universe means a lot to many people, but for us as stylists who are always behind the scenes, here there is certainly a platform that helps them in their careers, to become even greater, more productive and, above all, more profitable for their circle. He is extremely grateful for this opportunity.

He finished by saying: “If I achieved my dream here, you can too. Never doubt yourself.”
