Parliament is focusing on the enforcement of the law against animal abuse

According to studies, people who harm animals don’t just stop there. There is an established relationship between animal abuse and violence towards humans. A strong law to protect our pets can help prevent an animal abuser from becoming a potential child abuser.

On King’s Day, together with Mrs. Setty Christiaans–Yarzagaray, we took the opportunity to visit the Luna Foundation and show our appreciation for the work that the volunteers do to provide the dogs with a traumatic past a bright future. The volunteers dedicate a lot of their free time, energy, and love for the well-being of these poor animals.

At the Luna Foundation, they receive medical care, a lot of affection, and hope for a good home. Currently, there are more than 160 abandoned, mistreated, and unwanted dogs. This is an indication of the severity of the issue. There are several foundations that are joining the fight to save these abused dogs. Just as with the law against child abuse, Parliament is working to expand the law against animal abuse.

During the committee meetings ahead, Parliament will focus on the law, both enforcing it and bringing awareness to it. We are grateful to the volunteers of the Luna Foundation for their excellent work.
