Fisherman Urbano Geerman: Sea flooding is not unusual

Last week’s sea flooding at Baby Beach captured many people’s attention, including Urbano Geerman, an electrician who loves fishing. “ This situation is something that happens every year around October or hurricane season.”

Geerman commented that the climate changes are visible in Aruba, like our weather lately compared to the previous years. It is important to take all safety measures necessary before taking your boat out, no matter how experienced you are. “Before you know it, the weather changes, and you lose everything.”

Although sea flooding happens yearly, he is noticing that every year the water reaches more inland. But it is hard to say how to prepare for it. All we can do is take all safety measures. “We are in God’s hands.”

Thankfully there is unity between the fishermen, and when the sea is rough, we notify each other to prevent the boats from damaging.
